As Sreesanth held on Misbah-ul-Haq's attempted chip over fine leg,a nation was happy again.So happy that nobody cared about the WC07 debacle earlier in the year.The critics were happy.The media was happy.Cricketers were happy too[as well as glad that nobody will brick their car's or stone their houses].Nobody even cared about the following series loss to Australia.Players were covered in gold and silver both literally and figuratively,respectively by the BCCI and states.And so much to the dismay of other sportsmen.Hockey players went vocal [abetted by their coach,and were lucky in their attempt],while Olympic Goldie A.Bindra had something to say about the highly overrated game of our country.V.Anand wanted a similar reception[which he aptly deserved,and received].So,what?Gully cricket was now official as IPLT20!
The next few months were intriguing to say the least.We mauled Pakistan in the home series. Kumble was Test captain.A little bit of ignition of Sachin from Sanjay Manjrekar,and Dhoni ended up holding the trophy in the ODI's in the last of it's kind tri-series in Australia,much to the shock of hypocrites who criticized the holy trio of Indian cricket in the WC07 but wanted them in the ODI team to Australia all the same.On the other hand S.Bucknor ensured we lost the test series to the so called Invincibles.We ended their sweet16 run for the second time,thanks to VVS Laxman,amidst the monkeys and the fingers[not to forget the hearings].Rohit & Ishant Sharma was our answer for chin music with the bat and ball.While Bhajji and Symmo were both show caused for deeds uncalled for.South Africa ate into our confidence and we did the same to them.Another drawn series.IPL!Shane Warne showed no signs of age and MS Dhoni showed signs of fatigue.Jayasuriya and Mendis snatched the Asia cup from our mitts for the second time in four years.We lost to Mendis again.But Dhoni came back and helped our cause in the ODI series in Lanka.Ganguly was fried,and he took it to heart and called it a day with the home series against Australia.Ganguly scored a century,and missed one barely.In the end,we won.Yaah!But now Kumble retired.Sob!
Confident,we mauled England,Sri Lanka and New Zealand in the following 6 series[undefeated 6!Now can you dig that?]
Complacent,we messed up in the 2nd T20WC.Nobody could stop Pakistan.
Afridi mocked India.[We said,wait till the governments greenlight the next encounter!]
Now tired,frayed,injured India[bravely steered by Captain Cool] look to redeem themselves in the place where we messed up big time in the ides of March in 2007.
